Film director Ábel Visky is a professor at the Babeș-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca and the Sapientia Hungarian University of Transylvania in Cluj-Napoca. He completed his studies at Sapientia, and at the University of Theatre and Film Arts in Budapest, where he studied with János Szász, Attila Janisch and Ildikó Enyedi. His feature film Tales from the Prison Cell (Mesék a zárkából) combines documentary, fiction and animated techniques. The film is about the relationship between fathers in prison and their children, told through a unique creative process: the fathers write stories for their children, based on which they shoot films together with their kids as the main cast. Tales from the Prison Cell was invited to Hot Docs in Canada, Fipadoc in France, and Ismailia IDFF in Egypt among other festivals, and it won Best Hungarian Documentary at the Budapest International Documentary Festival in 2021. Ábel is currently making an extraordinary documentary about the world famous storyteller, Veronika Marék.
